The diabetic illness constitutes one of the sanitary problems of major transcendence, because of its frequency of occurrence, social and economic repercussion. It is important to note that diabetes is the first cause for blindness in many countries. Half of amputations of the inferior extremities are a consequence of diabetes. This illness increases the probability of heart attack and cerebral thrombosis.
One of the most feared problems of diabetic people is the sudden appearance of ulcers in the feet. This is a consequence of two chronic complications of this illness, periphery neuropathy and vascular insufficiency.
The problems with the diabetic foot originate 60000 amputations in the USA with an annual cost of 200 million dollars. The average hospitalization is high about 22 days. A third part of diabetic people go to the hospital because they present vascular anomalies on their extremities. The diabetic patient is five times more likely to ischemic lesions in the feet and almost 70% of the amputations done in a hospital are from diabetic patients.
This data makes us reflect about the importance and social repercussion of this illness of no easy solution.
Treatment
The treatment of the ulceration in a diabetic foot under our view has to be targeted to its root cause. We know that ozone is very effective in a situation of ischemia and infection, therefore our treatment is oriented to:
| • | Alleviate the plant pressure. |
| • | Treat the ulcer by eliminating all the callus and tissue not viable formed around the ulcer. |
| • | Wash the ulcer with ozonized water and application of ozone via boot bag. |
This treatment is done daily complemented with anal insufflations of ozone. The use of ozone as a therapeutic agent in these pathologies has demonstrated to be a practical, economical and very effective tool.
A study done by doctors José I. Fernández, Carmen Piña and Bertha Morales at University Hospital Celestino Hernández (Cuba), with 1153 patients for different angelologic pathologies using the ozone technique for a period of one year demonstrated a significant decrease in the number of amputations, a much better and faster cicatrisation of ulcer lesions and also an improvement in the healing process of lymphangitis.
The treatment was evaluated as satisfactory in more than 80% of the patients treated, with a marked decrease in hospitalizations.
It is important to note that the same results were obtained in Israel, Egypt, Chile, Italy and Germany. The good results obtained constitute a clear evidence of the effectiveness of this therapy in the field of angelology.
