Ozonetherapy What is Ozone?

Ozone Molecule Ozone is a chemical compound consisting of three oxygen atoms O3 (i.e. triatomic oxygen) a highly energetic form of normal (diatomic) atmospheric oxygen (O2) and it was discovered in 1840 by the German chemist Friedrich Schonbein (1799-1868).

Technical Ozone, is a mixture of ozone an air prepared from atmospheric air which is used all over the world for sterilising water and for chemical bleaching processes etc. (drinking water, swimming pools, air conditioning, in aircraft).

Medical ozone, is prepared from pure oxygen via silent electrical discharge for use as an ozone/oxygen mixture at an exact concentration and dosage. This medical procedure has to be done by a trained physician who determines the complete dosage according to the medical indication and patient's condition.

Properties of Ozone

Ozone DiagramOzone has the following properties:

Medical ozone is highly bactericidal and fungicidal.
  It has an immune-modulator property.
  It is a metabolic regulator.
It has the property to activate the body's own      antioxidants and radical scavengers.
It has the property to improve microcirculation.
  Analgesic and antiinflammatory.

In practice, ozonetherapy has beneficial effects in many pathologies because it acts at a basic level on several blood components with different functions.

Regeneration and Revitalization

revitalization Stress situations on the job or conditions of excessive mental and physical tension respond particularly well to ozone therapy. Its ability to activate red and white blood cell metabolism produces an improvement in general well being and revitalization. Professional sportsmen and women profit greatly from this fact as well. Although ozone does not give its user a higher performance level, it does improve physical output during the endurance phase, i.e. just below maximum exertion. In addition, the regeneration phase is measurably shortened in endurance sports.

Elderly patients respond very well to medical ozone therapy because an improved supply of oxygen is accessible to tissues, the immune system is reinvigorated, and the body activates it's own supply of antioxidants and radical scavengers. Furthermore, we have a positive influence in cerebral circulatory disorders a condition characterized by a general reduction in physical performance, insecurity in walking, and feelings of dizziness. Medical ozone is also used as preventive medicine, contributing to a marked increase in life quality.

Improvement of Blood Flow

circulation

After treatment with ozone, blood improves its capacity to flow through the narrowest blood vessels improving in this manner the cell oxygenation process.

Germicide and Disinfectant

This is one of the most remarkable properties of ozone. Beyond its anti-inflammatory, disinfectant and bactericidal effects, ozone is capable of promoting the formation of tissue. Excellent solution for burns, ulcers, diabetic feet and other dermatological related diseases.

What Illnesses Can Ozone Treat?

question

Ozone acts at the very basic cellular level therefore it is used in various types of illnesses. These are just a few cases where we have found it to be practical:

Peripheral arterial circulatory disorders (short cut syndrome, feeling of coldness in the legs or pains after walking only short distances).

Cerebral circulatory disorders. Cerebral and heart ischaemia, stroke. It is known that in the inflammation cascade process during stroke in the stage 1, the edema formation is rapidly overcome by the action of O3.

Chronic Fatigue Syndrom (CFS) and Fibromyalgia. These two diseases are characterised by poorly understood signs and symptoms, with severe fatigue and a continuos flu-like syndrome that profoundly disables patients.

Arthritic/rheumatic conditions includes various painful diseases of skeletal or muscular system. In the case of rheumatic Arthrosis (chronic polyArthrosis), our experience shows that ozone autohaemotherapy is a very useful complementary form when given during the non-acute phases.

Low Back Pain is a very disturbing symptom usually caused by a herniated disc.

Pulmonary diseases such as emphysema, asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and acute respiratory distress syndrome.

Neurodegenerative diseases such as parkinson, alzheimer and senile dementia can be treated with ozone at the initial stages of the disease.

Retinal degenerative disorders.

Forms of Ozone Administration

Major autohemotherapy, patient's own blood is withdrawn and enriched externally with an exact quantity of ozone. The activated blood is immediately reintroduced into the patient's system using a normal drip unit.

Minor autohemotherapy, patient's blood is enriched and administered via intramuscular route.

External treatment is primarily achieved through a closed system using ozone gas fed into special plastic boots. Parts of the body are moistened with water, as ozone cannot act on dry areas. This method is highly effective in treating ulcers, sores, open wounds, postoperative lesions, herpes, infected areas etc...

Via rectal route (medically it is called insufflation), it is not as inconvenient or unpleasant as it sounds. In fact, the patient feels absolutely nothing, as the O3 gas is directly absorbed by the sensitive intestinal membranes.

Via injection into the joints. This is a must in many orthopedic practices.

Contraindications

Favism (deficiency of the glucose-6 enzyme fosfate-dehidrogenasa) and hyperthyroidism.
