What is osteopathy?
Osteopathy is a manual therapy that uses the bone structure to correct movement. This is based on the principle that the body is a vital organism where the structure and its function are coordinated. It is a manual method of treatment of the somatic functions of the human body in relation to his participation in the pathological processes that lead to the disease.
How is an osteopathy session like?
During the first session a complete examination is made: anamnesis, palpation, inspection of nervous coetaneous territories, etc. After an osteopathic examination we are able to demonstrate all mechanical alterations of the locomotive apparatus, essentially in the pelvis and spine. The therapist will determine the injuries of the patient and will treat its imbalances. A session lasts around 50 minutes, sufficient time to use all the therapeutic resources.
What diseases can be treated with osteopathy?
The vertebrae related pains are the most frequent reason for consultation: twists, cervical and dorsal pains, acute and chronic lumbagos, imbalance of pelvis, hernias, neuralgias, periArthrosis, leg pains, sciatic, tendonitis, etc. It is important to consider that the indications are not restricted to this list, osteopathy is in itself a way to deal with the disease, with a special emphasis on the preventive aspect.
What are the contraindications?
Osteoporosis, bone cancer, inflammatory rheumatisms, certain types of vertigo by insufficiency of vertebra-basilar.
In addition to osteopathy, it is advisable to add some other type of therapy to obtain optimal results. During the course of treatment we will determine what other therapies are appropriate.
