PLASMA RICH IN GROWTH FACTORS
What is Plasma Rich in Growth Factors?
Growth Factors of your own body can help to accelerate the natural processes of healing, regeneration of tissues such as bone, skin, cartilage, muscle, etc.
Growth factors are soluble proteins which form part of plaques; they have a key role in the complex process of tissue regeneration and repair. These plaques are found in the patient’s to be treated, own plasma.
The therapeutic application of growth factors stimulates and accelerates the processes of tissue healing and regeneration. It also stimulates bones regeneration and healing, promotes the development of new blood vessels and stimulates the process of scare tissue in wounds.
In general, growth factors have shown to be:
• Mitogenic agents. They control and stimulate cellular reproduction at epithelial and mesenquimal levels.
• Motogenic agents. They control and stimulate cellular migration.
• Angiogenic agents. They promote the creation of new blood vessels.
• Cell-protectors. They stimulate the survival of cells when they have been attacked otherwise these episodes could have been lethal.
The use of plasma rich in marking agents is being considered like a revolution, amongst new and advanced therapies used in the cure and regeneration of tissues.
It is through these growth agents that adult stem cells get signals to initiate natural processes for repairing damaged tissue.
To which pathologies plasma rich in growth factors is applicable?
The use of plasma rich in growth factors is a valuable tool to treat a wide range of tissue lesions in orthopaedics, sports medicine, aesthetics and vascular medicine, implantology, maxillofacial surgery, or ophthalmology. The list is long.
• In vascular and diabetic pressure ulcers. It can be used in a topic application over the wounds or ulcers either in a powder or coagulated form.
• In dentistry is used in coagulated form for implants treatment.
• In traumathology can be injected in the joints. It can be mixed with artificial bone or bone from the patient in order to get a malleable mix to treat defects and/or fractures.
• In arthrosis is most efficient in the different faces or grades of the illness, this allows to hope delaying a definite treatment of serious arthrosis. It prevents a prosthesis implant due to the plasma’s condroprotector.
• Research indicates that the disease could be stopped or its progress delayed. In these patients the rigidity and the pain decreases and recovery of movement and functional capacity improve considerably.
• In order to avoid inflammation and to improve tissue adherence, a powder mix is applied in facial lifting.
• In ophthalmology, when applied in topic form, as an eye drop solution, has shown to be a trusty procedure, safe and efficient in order to restore the epithelial surface of the cornea.
• Plasma rich in marking agents improves the conjunctiva hyperaemia and promotes rapid healing in the case of ulcers in the corneas.
How secure is its application?

The plasma is obtained from a small volume of blood taken from the patient to be treated, moments before its application. Therefore there are neither allergies nor rejections and transmission of diseases is avoid.
When the plasma is obtained using special equipment, applying the most complete aseptic techniques and enriching it with ozone, external contamination is avoided.
Throughout the whole procedure rigorous sterile conditions are applied by qualified personnel. The result is a bio-secure procedure and 100% autologous, that is the subject is donor and receptor at the same time. Because ozone is used at the same time, 100% sterility in the treatment is guaranteed due to its bactericides properties. Ozone also has an anti-inflammatory and condroprotective effect that potentializes plasma action.
How many infiltrations are needed?
With this technique around three or four infiltrations, at weekly intervals, are generally applied.
